Packing Food. Fighting Hunger.
The community-wide food packaging session held Tuesday, February 19th was a huge success. We set out to package 200,000 meals and, with the participation of numerous volunteers throughout the area, worked together to package a total of 251,640 meals by day's end.

The 2008 goal of Kids Against Hunger of Des Moines is to package a total of 2 million meals, which we will likely surpass within the next week or two! Come package with us at the Holmes Collision Center on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon and join in the celebration when we hit the 2 million mark!

If you enjoyed the community-wide packaging event, mark your calendars for the week of Labor Day 2008, when a statewide packaging week will be taking place at Hy-Vee Hall in downtown Des Moines. Watch for more details in future correspondence from Kids Against Hunger of Des Moines.

Thank you once again for helping feed the hungry in our world!

World hunger is the largest problem the human race faces at this time with an estimated 800 million people in some type of food-related crisis. Every day more than 40,000 people die from hunger-related causes – that's one person every two seconds.

Kids Against Hunger™ of Des Moines is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to end that tragedy by packaging and shipping life-saving meals to starving and malnourished children in developing countries and the United States. The meals, formulated by Cargill and General Mills food scientists, provide a rich source of easily digestible protein, carbohydrates and vitamins needed by the bodies and minds of undernourished children.

Since its launch in 1999, Kids Against Hunger has fed more than 30 million meals to children in 39 countries through the efforts of 80,000 volunteers.
